Greek, Latin, Mining Equipment

I'm home in Price now--working for my Dad for the next two months. His secretary is on maternity leave and I'm filling in--processing payroll, writing up invoices, filing. Sounds easy enough and it is...until someone wants to talk mine talk. People call to place an order or to ask about an order and I have to get an interpretor. For instance, I go to my Dad and say, "So and so called from Horizon Mine about a simplex roof something..." at which point my voice starts fading out. He tells me what it's all about and I pretend like I understand. My favorite thing is when I get to make phone calls and say things like, "We sent your torque wrenches" as if I know exactly what that means. But inside I'm giggling because I have no idea. There's something slightly nostalgic about coal mining, but I think that's because I picture it to be like it was 50 years ago...like that movie "October Sky." Only with a lot less black lung. I'm glad to be in this world for a while-especially since I'll be bilingual when I'm through.

I love it! You should have started this a long time ago. Good luck with that mining lingo. I never figured it out either but you get to the point where you are pretty good at pretending you know exactly what they are talking about!
